PUBLIC MEETINGS ON Complex 2030

In November and December 2006, the National Nuclear Security Administration, an agency of the Department of Energy, held 17 meetings in order to receive public comments in its process of preparing a programmatic environmental impact statement for “Complex 2030,” a multibillion-dollar program that would reorganize and consolidate nuclear weapons production facilities and build a major hydrogen bomb factory.

December 14 Press Conference at the National Press Club "The question is not how much more sophisticated our plants and weapons can become, but how serious we are as a nation to lead the world with an alternative vision which interprets power differently and promotes peaceful coexistence globally."

- Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis (right), Theological Advisor to the Ecumenical Patriarch on Environmental Issues, Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, speaking at a Dec. 14, 2006 press conference at the National Press Club. Read the full text of his remarks (PDF).

With a price tag for renovation of the nuclear weapons complex upwards of $150 billion, it is immoral to spend our resources on unnecessary weapons when there are so many other human needs left unmet. Learn more today.
