Statement from Religious Leaders on North Korea A group of prominent religious leaders released a statement on Tuesday, July 17 congratulating the Bush administration for successful diplomatic efforts toward the denuclearization of North Korea and urging the administration to apply a similar strategy to the Iranian nuclear standoff. On the 60th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, religious people from a variety of traditions came together and formed a new group committed to ending the nuclear danger. Faithful Security is a network of citizens who participate in the National Religious Partnership on the Nuclear Weapons Danger. We are committed to organizing religious communities on a local level to break faith with nuclear weapons once and for all. Over the next year, we’ll be working with students at religious schools to educate them about nuclear weapons. We’ll monitor legislation on nonproliferation and new nuclear weapons systems. We’ll develop a speaker’s bureau so that you can have easier access to the experts. We’ll encourage national denominations to increase the amount of energy that they spend working on nuclear weapons issues. Best of all, we’re building a Faithful Security Network made up of thousands of religious people just like you. You’ll be able to connect with ways to take action, and find new partners in your own area. You can help!
